MGF 4 | Future-Proofing Your Workforce: Law, Immigration & Risk

8AM – 10AM • Weaver's Restaurant, Johnstons of Elgin , Newmill Road, Elgin, IV30 4AF

In today’s rapidly evolving employment landscape, businesses must stay ahead of changes in legislation, immigration policy and compliance requirements. This session is hosted by Harper Macleod LLP, providing legal expertise to help businesses navigate the evolving workforce landscape.

Join us for an informative morning session at Johnstons of Elgin exploring the latest changes in UK employment and immigration law and what they mean for Scottish employers.

Significant updates to employment and immigration legislation were introduced in 2025, with further adjustments expected in 2026. These reforms will have important implications for organisations that employ or sponsor international workers, and it is vital that employers stay informed and prepared.

During this session, the Harper Macleod team will guide attendees through the key legislative developments and what lies ahead. Topics will include the Employment Rights Act 2025, the extension of the civil penalty scheme for illegal working, and changes to visa sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. The session will provide practical insights and clear guidance to help organisations understand their responsibilities, remain compliant, and manage workforce planning in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.

We will also hear from Shan Saba, Director of Brightwork and Founder of Scotland Against Modern Slavery, who will offer a broader perspective on emerging immigration trends, workforce dynamics, and the increasing importance of ethical recruitment practices. This discussion will explore modern slavery risks and how organisations can ensure responsible hiring in an increasingly complex global labour market.

This session will equip employers, HR professionals and business leaders with the knowledge and actionable steps needed to navigate a year of significant change with confidence.
