Louise Macdonald OBE was appointed as Interim Director General Economy to the Scottish Government on May 2nd 2022.
She joined the Scottish Government from her role of National Director of the Institute of Directors Scotland, prior to this Louise was CEO of award-winning charity Young Scot for 13 years. As DG Economy she will lead delivery of the National Strategy for Economic Transformation and help build a strong, competitive economy as Scotland recovers from the pandemic.
In March 2016 Louise was named as the winner of the Institute of Directors (IoD) Scotland Director of the Year Awards Female Director of the Year and went on to be awarded IoD UK Third Sector Director of the Year. She was awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours List 2015.
Louise brings a strong leadership focus for delivery of economic transformation. This will involve collaborating with business and stakeholders across a range of sectors and services, including trade and investment, business support, employability and place based economic development and skills development.
DG Economy is responsible for the Scottish Government's Economic policy. She has six key directorates.
