Moray HandyPerson Services

Please name the main purpose of your business.
Moray HandyPerson Services is a local charity that has been serving the community for 28 years. The aim of Moray HandyPerson Services is to provide practical assistance to help keep older, disabled and otherwise vulnerable safe and independent in their own homes. Throughout Moray, a team of 21 volunteers carry out small DIY jobs such as installing key safes, installing blinds, curtains and curtain poles, building essential flat pack furniture, putting up shelves, hanging mirrors and pictures and changing lightbulbs. There is no charge for this service, but we do welcome donations to help keep the service available for those that need us.

We also provide a paid Toenail Trimming Service for people that have problems cutting and filing their toenails. We provide this service to a large number of clients throughout Moray at either one of our central hubs or home visits can be arranged if their health conditions require it.

What are the benefits to operating in Moray?
Supporting those in communities throughout Moray has ensured we have been able to develop the services offered to ensure we are doing the best we can to help those that need us most.

How do you connect to your local customers?
Clients are often referred to us by Health and Social Care professionals, the Moray Council and word of mouth. We also have a Facebook page, website and we regularly attend networking events and local community groups to meet clients face to face.

Why are you part of Moray Chamber of Commerce?
As a small organisation, it is important for us to have connections across the community in Moray, this helps spread the word about our service, as well as receiving support from Moray Chamber of Commerce.

What are you most proud of?
We are proud of our long history of over 28 years supporting people throughout Moray to live as independently as possible. We have volunteers who have been with us since day one and we are proud to have them as part of our team.

Finally, name one misconception that people have about your business.
There is the misconception that we only help those over the age of 65. This is not the case. We help elderly, disabled and otherwise vulnerable people, such as those leaving homeless accommodation or throughcare aftercare. This is for those that don’t have friends, family or neighbours to help them or the means to source and pay for a tradesperson themselves.
