Please name the main purpose of your business.
We are a licensed asbestos removal company carrying out all types of asbestos removal and disposal. In addition we also carry out all types of asbestos surveys and sampling.

What are the benefits to operating in Moray?
Our Head office has always been based here in Elgin. With Elgin covering the north of Scotland we ideally placed to cover Aberdeen, Inverness and beyond. Moray has always been a great location to base our business. In addition we cover the whole of Scotland and Northern England with satellite offices in various locations

How do you connect to your local customers?
Due to the nature of our business, the majority of our local customers search online and make contact with us. We have a lot of repeat custom or people contacting us through word of mouth or recommendations.

Why are you part of Moray Chamber of Commerce?
I joined the Chamber for various reasons which are hugely beneficial to our company. It provides a great network between local business, knowledge & support, plus added benefits of legal and HR hotlines and insurance to cover the same. The MCC has a great team who are always happy to help!

What are you most proud of?
I started working in the asbestos industry back in 2009 where I joined Northern Asbestos Services as a trainee project engineer. I worked my way up within the company before leaving in 2015 to join Wood Group Industrial Services to run the asbestos removal division in Scotland and then moving to Newcastle to run the UK division. Just as the first lockdown came Wood Group ISL was bought over and I was made redundant. Wanting to move back to Elgin I made contact with the current owner. Following several months of discussions I made an offer to buy Northern Asbestos Services. I am now the owner and Managing Director of the company where my journey began. Northern Asbestos Services currently employees 21 people with 2 trainees away to start thanks to the MERI scheme which I found out about through the Chamber. I have a great foundation to continue building/growing the company and continue its success.

Finally, name one misconception that people have about your business.
If you have asbestos within your property it can remain in situ if in good condition and managed/inspected on a regular basis. This can be done by getting a management survey carried out. Prior to any refurbishment works within a building a refurbish/demolition survey must be carried out. The final ban outlawing the use of asbestos was enforced from 1999.
