Stotfield Hotel

Please name the main purpose of your business.
The Stotfield Hotel, located in Lossiemouth, has been a hotel since it was built in 1895. Located overlooking the West Beach and Covesea Lighthouse, it has been welcoming guests for 130 years. Billy & Malcolm took over the hotel 15 years ago and continue to be a part of the hotel’s long legacy. We offer 47 guest bedrooms, a bar, restaurant, function & event space for up to 100 guests and a meeting room for up to 30.

What are the benefits to operating in Moray?
Moray offers such a wide variety for our customers to experience. Whether travelling for leisure or business, we cater for both. Our stunning seaside location and proximity to Moray Golf Club attract our leisure customers. Our proximity to RAF Lossiemouth and other local businesses means we can accommodate individuals, small and larger groups, meetings and events.

How do you connect to your local customers?
We use a variety of methods: social media, networking events & membership of local organisations, such as the Chamber. It’s always good to remind people that the hotel is here. It has been a part of the fabric of the town for so long, so many people’s special occasions in life have been celebrated in the hotel over the years, but the hotel is open to non-residents for meals, drinks, coffee, somewhere to meet up with friends etc, as well as the more major events.

Why are you part of Moray Chamber of Commerce?
We have been Chamber members for 11 years now, joining originally to connect the local business community and be part of a local & national business organisation. Latterly, we have utilised the collective voice and power of the Chamber to assist and lobby for actions specific to our sector.

What are you most proud of?
Our team are a great asset to the business, and we are very proud of how they look after our customers on a daily basis. We strive to welcome everyone with a genuine warmth and ensure that they get the most out of their visit to the hotel/area. A lot of our team members have been with us since we took over the hotel in 2010, and we are delighted to welcome back a lot of repeat business time and again. We also recently completed a bathroom refresh in all of our bedrooms, which we had long planned, but when the pandemic occurred our plans were derailed. We are now proud that these works have been completed, and our customers can benefit from the improved facilities.

Finally, name one misconception that people have about your business.
With 47 bedrooms, bar, restaurant and function/meeting spaces, we are one of the largest independently owned and operated full-service hotels in Moray. Hospitality businesses in recent years have struggled to regain a foothold after Covid, and as like many, we have all had to adapt our businesses to new trends. We can provide a more individual experience to that of chain hotels, we are big enough to cope with larger requests, and still small enough to care about the more individual and specific details.
