90-year-old Margaret aims to conquer Castle Hill for charity

15 May 2026 • Sarah Medcraf

A 90-year-old resident at a Cullen care home is preparing to take on an uphill sponsored walk in support of a local mental health charity.

Margaret, who lives at Wakefield House, will take on the challenge on Monday 1 June, walking the half-mile route from the care home to the summit of Castle Hill to raise funds for Feeling Blue.

She will be joined by Wakefield House manager Jamie Grassick, who will support her along the route to the landmark hilltop overlooking Cullen.

The challenge will raise money for Feeling Blue, a north-east charity which provides support to people experiencing loneliness, isolation and mental health difficulties.

Castle Hill is one of Cullen’s best known local landmarks and offers panoramic views across the Moray Firth.

Jamie said: “Margaret has shown incredible determination and enthusiasm for this challenge, and everyone at Wakefield House is right behind her.

“She’s an inspiration to us all. This is not only a fantastic personal achievement, but also a wonderful way to support an important local charity that does so much for people in our communities.

“We’re hoping as many people as possible will get behind Margaret and support her fundraising effort.”

Margaret is well on her way to achieving her £500 target, with £275 already raised.
