30 September 2025 • Sarah Medcraf

THREE MORAY COUNCILLORS HAVE BEEN SHORTLISTED FOR THIS YEAR’S LGIU AND CCLA CLLR AWARDS - THE ONLY NATIONAL AWARDS CEREMONY DEDICATED TO CELEBRATING THE WORK OF COUNCILLORS.

Moray Council Leader Cllr Kathleen Robertson is the only person shortlisted in the Leader of the Year category, while Cllr Amber Dunbar (Elgin North) is in the running for for Young Councillor of the Year and Cllr Marc Macrae (Fochabers and Lhanbryde) is recognised in the Innovator of the Year category.

Meanwhile, Moray Council’s Building Standards team has been selected to receive a National Performance Award from the Building Standards Division of the Scottish Government.

It’s the first time Moray has been presented with the award, which recognises strong performance across all seven national measures of service quality and delivery.

In further positive news, an innovative project involving Moray Council using recycled Christmas trees to protect sand dunes in Lossiemouth has been nominated at the prestigious COSLA Excellence Awards.

The project – led by Lossiemouth Community Council – has been listed in the Improving in Partnership category.

Moray Council Chief Executive Karen Greaves BEM said: “I’m very pleased to see our councillors, teams and community partners being recognised for their hard work, dedication and innovation. We’re a small area, and to achieve this level of acknowledgement in quick succession is remarkable. I’d like to wish the nominees the best of luck, and congratulate our Building Standards team for their much-deserved award.”

Carolle Ralph, Chair of Lossiemouth Community Council, added: “This was a pilot, and we had no idea how it would be received – but the reception has been remarkably positive, and we are delighted to learn of the award nomination. This is a great example of partnership working, and we have appreciated Moray Council’s support throughout.”
