Consultation on overnight stays for Campervans/Motorhomes
28 April 2025 • Sarah Medcraf
Moray Council - Economic Development & Infrastructure (ED&I) Committee wish to establish community views on the proposal to implement a Council overnight stay scheme for campervan and motorhomes at designated sites across Moray. Overnight stays by campervans and motorhomes are already present within our communities. The intention of the initiative is to improve the management of overnight stays. However, before any decision is made, the Council is seeking the views of local communities on the matter.
The outcome of the consultation will help shape the final decision on whether or not a formal scheme for overnight stays is implemented.
The parameters of the proposed scheme are:
• Overnight parking only.
• Only self-contained motorhomes/campervans with on board facilities will be permitted to use the site.
• Overnight stays would be restricted to one night only.
• Overnight stays would only be permitted at designated car parks.
• There would be no provision of waste disposal points.
• Setting up of benches, chairs and awnings would not be permitted.
• Overnight parking charges would apply.
• Restriction on the numbers of campervans permitted at each site.
• Indicative voluntary payment of £7 per night.
• Erection of signage promoting positive behaviours.
• Production of promotional material referencing other facilities including commercial sites.
• Erection of signage showing local facilities and the nearest waste disposal point.
