Duffus Estate announces the opening of Duffus Estate Camping

15 June 2026 • Sarah Medcraf

Duffus Estate announces the opening of Duffus Estate Camping, invi􀆟ng visitors to experience this unique corner of Moray.

Owner Ed Dunbar is delighted to confirm the campsite’s official opening Friday, May 29, 2026. Set within the beautiful grounds of Duffus House, the site offers a tranquil escape that reflects the Estate’s twelve-generation legacy of sustainable land use, responsible tourism, and strong local ties. With six existing self-catering holiday lets, the campsite is a natural extension to welcome more
guests to Moray.

Blending rustic charm with modern convenience, Duffus Estate Camping features:
- 30 level grass tent pitches within a sheltered walled garden, where original fruit trees still grow, plus a covered area for food prep and seating in the remains of a former greenhouse.
- 20 touring pitches along a large field with open southerly views, each with its own power and water.
- Purpose-built shower and toilet blocks, including a fully accessible WC and shower, a covered pot-wash area, drive-over grey water drainage, and a chemical disposal point.
- The Koffie Box—our converted horsebox coffee trailer—serving barista coffee along with sweet and savoury treats.

Guests can explore 18 acres of mature woodland and 26 acres of grass paths, with chances to spot our Soay sheep and Highland cows. Our grass tennis court in another old walled garden is available, with rackets and balls available for loan from reception. We are very lucky to have abundant wildlife - look out for red squirrels, roe deer, buzzards, owls, bats, and the occasional pine marten.

St Peter’s Kirk, cared for by Historic Environment Scotland, sits quietly within the Estate grounds and is an idyllic place to explore. Many genera􀆟ons of our Dunbar family are buried here.

From the campsite, you can walk or cycle mainly off-road to the ruins of Duffus Castle and enjoy a “brew with a view” at our Kula Coffee Hut. The coastal village of Hopeman is reachable by a designated cycle path and is a fabulous place to visit for beaches, play areas, and local eateries. The Moray Coastal Trail offers dramatic cliffs, sweeping beaches, and historic villages—keep an eye out for dolphins, seals, or even orca, whales, and the rare visiting walrus.

For fitness and wellness, nearby mobile saunas operate at Findhorn, Hopeman, and Covesea. Sea swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, and extensive woodland and coastal trails suit runners, walkers, and off-road cyclists. Local highlights include Roseisle and Lossie Woods, plus excellent golf at Hopeman, Moray (Lossiemouth), and Covesea. Day trips to the Cairngorms, world-famous whisky distilleries, and numerous castles are all within reach.

“We are incredibly proud to open the gates of Duffus Estate Camping and share this exceptional corner of Scotland with a wider audience. Our small team and local contractors have worked incredibly hard to get to this point and I am most grateful to them all. Our aim has always been to foster a deep appreciation for the land and its heritage. This campsite allows us to invite guests to explore Moray, discover hidden gems, and create lasting memories on our cherished estate. We look forward to welcoming our first guests this Friday and embarking on this exciting new chapter.” — Ed Dunbar
