GOLD AWARD FOR MORAY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

12 July 2022 • Sarah Medcraf

Moray Chamber of Commerce has been awarded Gold status in the Employer Recognition Awards. Originally awarded silver in 2016 at Edinburgh Castle and with a reconfirmation accolade gained in 2021, the Chamber now hosts gold. The award recognises employers that support the military community.

Moray Chamber has signed the armed forces covenant and have been proud to hold the bronze and silver certificates. To be the recipient of the gold award Moray Chamber of Commerce must actively ensure that their workforce is aware of their positive policies towards defence people issues such as a reserves policy. Moray Chamber has proactively demonstrated that service personnel/armed forces community are not unfairly disadvantaged as part of their recruiting and selection processes.

A total of 156 organisations have been recognised this year, with 9 of these being awarded gold in the ninth year of the awards scheme. Of the winners, 44% are either micro-organisations or small and medium sized enterprises, while 33% are public organisations. This demonstrates both the growth in numbers and the depth of supportive employers. Councils, charities, blue light services, retail and insurance companies are among those that have been recognised. The awards will be presented at a ceremony at Stirling Castle in the autumn.

Sarah Medcraf, Chief Executive Officer of Moray Chamber of Commerce added:

“We are thrilled to be awarded the Gold Award. The military is very much an engrained part of our community here in Moray through the personnel, reservists, veterans and spouses and we want equity across the region for them. The Chamber has stated commitment to supporting serving and former military personnel, reservists, and military families.”

“We are proud of our achievement and would encourage any business thinking of pledging their support to do so. We’ve been involved with the military for many years from leading the campaign to Save RAF Lossiemouth in 2011 alongside our community partners to having members of our team take part in an Executive Stretch programme. The knowledge and experience shared between military and civilian personnel can be hugely beneficial to all.”

The Employer Recognition Scheme is run by the Ministry of Defence to recognise UK employers who pledge their commitment to the armed forces community and align their values to the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant.
