Moray businesses invited to register for potential Dorenell Extension Wind Farm supply-chain opportunities

Moray Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses across the region to find out more about potential supply-chain opportunities connected with the proposed Dorenell Extension Wind Farm and to consider registering their interest through developer Galileo’s dedicated supplier portal.
The proposed renewable energy development is currently being considered by the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit. No decision has yet been made on whether the project will proceed.
Moray Chamber of Commerce is not taking a position through this communication on the determination of the application. Its role is to ensure that local businesses are made aware of potential commercial opportunities and are given the chance to demonstrate their capabilities should the project receive consent.
An economic impact assessment commissioned by Galileo and undertaken by Biggar Economics estimates that the development could support around 1,200 job years in Moray during the construction phase, alongside approximately 50 full-time equivalent roles during its anticipated 40-year operational lifespan.
The onshore wind sector is already a massive driver of wealth in the country, supporting more than 3,400 jobs across Scotland and contributing £1.49 billion to the Scottish economy in a single year, according to data from the Fraser of Allander Institute.
In advance of any decision on the project, Galileo has stated its intention to take a local-first approach to procurement and maximise the potential economic benefit for Moray.
The developer is working with Moray Chamber of Commerce, Business Gateway and Highlands and Islands Enterprise to raise awareness of potential opportunities, identify capable local suppliers and support engagement between businesses and the project team.
Subject to the project receiving consent, Galileo also plans to hold meet-the-buyer events to allow local businesses to speak directly with the developer and relevant contractors.
The company has also said it will encourage its principal contractors to recruit locally and source services and materials from businesses in Moray and the surrounding region wherever possible.
Galileo’s supplier portal allows businesses to provide basic company and contact information, along with a brief description of the services, products or expertise they may be able to offer.

“These may include civil engineering, groundworks and electrical contracting, as well as catering, accommodation, transport, security, fencing and a range of other local services.
“Moray Chamber’s role is to make sure businesses are aware of potential opportunities at an early stage and have the chance to demonstrate their skills, experience and capacity.
“Registering does not guarantee work, but it provides businesses with a direct route to share their details with the project team and its contractors. We would therefore encourage interested businesses to review the information available and consider registering.”
