Buckie care home recognised for ‘wonderful and memorable experiences’

A care home in Buckie has been rated ‘very good’ across key areas following an unannounced inspection by the Care Inspectorate, with inspectors highlighting “wonderful and memorable experiences” for residents.

Parklands and Burnbank received grades of five for both the quality of care and support, and the quality of its setting following an unannounced inspection carried out in March. Inspectors described a “whole team approach to supporting people to live well”, with staff praised for their compassion, caring abilities and respect.

Relatives spoke highly of the care provided, with one describing staff as “just the best”, while others said they felt reassured their loved ones were “in good hands”. Some also reported that their loved one’s health and wellbeing had improved since moving into the home.

The report noted that residents were supported to maintain their independence and sense of identity, with staff taking time to understand individual preferences and support people in ways that matter to them. Care plans were described as clear and person-centred, with staff trained in a new electronic medication system to support the safe and effective management of medicines.

Mealtimes were highlighted as a particular strength, with residents praising both the quality and variety of food, as well as the relaxed, social atmosphere. A wide range of activities, shaped around residents’ interests and goals, also contributed to a varied and engaging daily life within the home.

The environment was also recognised as a key strength. Inspectors found the home to be clean, comfortable and well maintained, with bedrooms personalised to a high standard and shared spaces offering choice and a welcoming, homely feel. Ongoing investment in the home’s facilities was also noted.

Residents and relatives also spoke positively about communication, with initiatives such as ‘resident of the day’, where staff provide regular updates to families, helping to keep them informed and involved in care.

Denise Risk, Manager of Parklands & Burnbank, said: “I’m really proud of our team and the care they provide every day. They work incredibly hard to create a warm, supportive environment and to make sure each resident is cared for as an individual. It’s great to see that recognised in this report.”

Jacqui Ferguson, Operations Director at Parklands Care Homes, added: “This is a strong report and reflects the dedication of our team in Buckie. It’s particularly encouraging to see recognition of the compassionate, person-centred care being delivered and the positive impact this has on residents’ wellbeing.”

The Care Inspectorate evaluates care services using a six-point scale, ranging from 1 (unsatisfactory) to 6 (excellent).
