FROM ONE-MAN START-UP TO SCOTLAND’S LEADING FENCING EXPERT
Elgin-based fencing business, Tony Weir Contractor Ltd, has been announced as a finalist for the SME of the Year Award at this year’s Moray Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, recognising a decade of growth, innovation, and community commitment.
Founded in 2016 by Tony Weir, the business began as a one-man operation, built from Tony’s personal savings and determination to succeed. In the early years, Tony managed every aspect of the company - from paperwork to working on-site - laying the foundations for a business now regarded as the largest fencing contractor in the North of Scotland.

From those humble beginnings, Tony Weir Contractor Ltd has grown to employ 18 skilled local staff, all from the Moray area, with Tony’s son and daughter joining the team to ensure the company remains family-run. Despite its expansion, Tony continues to lead by example, maintaining a hands-on approach on-site while upholding the company’s values of integrity, hard work, and quality.
Over the past decade, the company has evolved from undertaking small-scale local works to managing large-scale, high-profile projects across Scotland. Notable contracts include a five-year framework with Crown Estate Scotland, delivering 90,000 meters of agricultural fencing across the Glenlivet and Fochabers estates, as well as domestic fencing projects for Barratt Homes’ Delnies development in Nairn. The business has also undertaken temporary fencing and reinstatement projects for major cable track and overhead power line companies, demonstrating technical expertise and versatility.
Investment in people and technology has been central to the company’s growth. Staff are trained to the highest standards, while specialist machinery allows Tony Weir Contractor Ltd to operate in even the most challenging environments. The company’s commitment to excellence has earned SSIP accreditation, Constructionline Gold, and a finalist spot in the UK Fencing Awards 2025 for Agricultural Contractor of the Year.
Beyond business success, Tony and the company are deeply committed to giving back to the community. Highlights include sponsoring young athletes, assisting at local events like the Tomintoul Games 2025, and supporting wildfire management efforts in the area. These contributions reflect a company ethos rooted in community support, skill development, and responsible local engagement.
Over the past ten years, Tony Weir Contractor Ltd has grown into a multi-million-pound enterprise, setting industry standards and creating local employment opportunities while maintaining a focus on quality, safety, and sustainability. The SME of the Year Award would recognise not only Tony’s personal dedication and achievements but also the company’s ongoing ambition to expand, innovate, and strengthen the fencing industry in Scotland.
