Free Digital Skills Course for Carers Launched in Moray

UHI LAUNCH FREE DIGITAL SKILLS COURSE FOR CARERS IN MORAY

UHI Moray have launched a new free online course to support individuals working in a caring capacity, whether paid or unpaid. Digital Essentials for Carers is designed to help carers build confidence in using digital tools to enhance the quality of care they provide.

Developed in partnership with the Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre (DHI) and Health & Social Care Moray, the course is flexible and self-paced, with tutor support available throughout. It is suitable for family carers, unpaid carers, personal assistants, and professionals working in care settings, with no previous digital experience required.

The course covers essential topics such as:

  • Understanding digital health and care tools to make caregiving easier
  • Discussing personal data use and protection with those in their care
  • Finding and sharing helpful digital health services
  • Building personal digital skills while supporting others

Course units include:

  • A Brief History of Digital Technologies in Health and Social Care: Introducing established and emerging technologies such as apps, telemedicine, wearables, and online communities.
  • Developing Skills and Confidence in Digital Care: Practical guidance on using mobile devices, electronic communication, internet connectivity, and basic IT troubleshooting.
  • Digital Care: The Moray Context: Exploring how digital technologies can improve care delivery in rural areas and help carers stay connected with communities.
  • Your Personal Information and How It’s Used: Guidance on handling sensitive data responsibly to protect the people in their care.

The course is free, delivered online, and designed to fit around busy schedules.
